Tailgate For Trees - TreesAtlanta Organization

On September 12, 2014, Trees Atlanta will be having a “Tailgate for Trees” at the Kendeda Center.

“Tailgate for Trees,” is a casual, tailgate-themed party that will serve as a kickoff to the annual planting season.  Festivities will include food truck fare, drinks, and a silent auction featuring an array of rare and unusual plants not available at local retailers, as well as woodcrafts and art pieces from local artisans and street artists such as you.

As a fellow woodcraft enthusiast, I am hoping you will join me in contributing to our silent auction to help reach our fundraising goal and to heighten the experience by donating your finest handmade art pieces. Donors will be recognized on the event invitation if the donated item(s) is valued at more than $250.  You will also receive two tickets to the event with a donation valued at $250 or more. Donors will receive recognition on signage at the event ($250 or more with logo, name listing if less than $250).

I am certain your artifacts will be a great conversation piece at the party. To make a donation to our silent auction, simply fill out and return the attached auction reply form by August 8th, 2014.  After the conclusion of the event, all auction donors will receive a letter with our tax ID number, acknowledging their donation and the amount for which it was sold.

All proceeds from the evening will benefit Trees Atlanta’s tree planting and education programs. This year we reached the milestone of 100,000 trees planted across Atlanta—now we’re busy planning the next 100,000! You’ll be pleased to know that in the last year we’ve reached over 3,900 children through our youth education programs. All of this has been made possible by the support of people like you.

Please direct any questions to me at eli@treesatlanta.org or 404-681-4890.

We thank you for your consideration of our request.

Sincerely,
Eli Dickerson

Print Advertising – Newspapers, Magazines, Brochures, Fliers
The print media have always been a popular advertising medium. Advertising products via newspapers or magazines is a common practice. In addition to this, the print media also offers options like promotional brochures and fliers for advertising purposes. Often the newspapers and the magazines sell the advertising space according to the area occupied by the advertisement, the position of the advertisement (front page/middle page), as well as the readership of the publications. For instance an advertisement in a relatively new and less popular newspaper would cost far less than placing an advertisement in a popular newspaper with a high readership. The price of print ads also depend on the supplement in which they appear, for example an advertisement in the glossy supplement costs way higher than that in the newspaper supplement which uses a mediocre quality paper.

Outdoor Advertising – Billboards, Kiosks, Trade shows and Events
Outdoor advertising is also a very popular form of advertising, which makes use of several tools and techniques to attract the customers outdoors. The most common examples of outdoor advertising are billboards, kiosks, and also several events and tradeshows organized by the company. The billboard advertising is very popular however has to be really terse and catchy in order to grab the attention of the passers by. The kiosks not only provide an easy outlet for the company products but also make for an effective advertising tool to promote the company’s products. Organizing several events or sponsoring them makes for an excellent advertising opportunity. The company can organize trade fairs, or even exhibitions for advertising their products. If not this, the company can organize several events that are closely associated with their field. For instance a company that manufactures sports utilities can sponsor a sports tournament to advertise its products.

Broadcast advertising – Television, Radio and the Internet
Broadcast advertising is a very popular advertising medium that constitutes of several branches like television, radio or the Internet. Television advertisements have been very popular ever since they have been introduced. The cost of television advertising often depends on the duration of the advertisement, the time of broadcast (prime time/peak time), and of course the popularity of the television channel on which the advertisement is going to be broad casted. The radio might have lost its charm owing to the new age media however the radio remains to be the choice of small-scale advertisers. The radio jingles have been very popular advertising media and have a large impact on the audience, which is evident in the fact that many people still remember and enjoy the popular radio jingles.

Covert Advertising – Advertising in Movies
Covert advertising is a unique kind of advertising in which a product or a particular brand is incorporated in some entertainment and media channels like movies, television shows or even sports. There is no commercial in the entertainment but the brand or the product is subtly( or sometimes evidently) showcased in the entertainment show. Some of the famous examples for this sort of advertising have to be the appearance of brand Nokia which is displayed on Tom Cruise’s phone in the movie Minority Report, or the use of Cadillac cars in the movie Matrix Reloaded.

Surrogate Advertising – Advertising Indirectly
Surrogate advertising is prominently seen in cases where advertising a particular product is banned by law. Advertisement for products like cigarettes or alcohol which are injurious to heath are prohibited by law in several countries and hence these companies have to come up with several other products that might have the same brand name and indirectly remind people of the cigarettes or beer bottles of the same brand. Common examples include Fosters and Kingfisher beer brands, which are often seen to promote their brand with the help of surrogate advertising.

Public Service Advertising – Advertising for Social Causes
Public service advertising is a technique that makes use of advertising as an effective communication medium to convey socially relevant messaged about important matters and social welfare causes like AIDS, energy conservation, political integrity, deforestation, illiteracy, poverty and so on. David Oglivy who is considered to be one of the pioneers of advertising and marketing concepts had reportedly encouraged the use of advertising field for a social cause. Oglivy once said, "Advertising justifies its existence when used in the public interest - it is much too powerful a tool to use solely for commercial purposes.". Today public service advertising has been increasingly used in a non-commercial fashion in several countries across the world in order to promote various social causes. In USA, the radio and television stations are granted on the basis of a fixed amount of Public service advertisements aired by the channel.

Celebrity Advertising
Although the audience is getting smarter and smarter and the modern day consumer getting immune to the exaggerated claims made in a majority of advertisements, there exist a section of advertisers that still bank upon celebrities and their popularity for advertising their products. Using celebrities for advertising involves signing up celebrities for advertising campaigns, which consist of all sorts of advertising including, television ads or even print advertisements.

Guerilla Advertising
A ton of movie companies do this (so did Apple) with "wilding posting" in areas that are heavily traveled by walking/driving pedestrians. Usually done in the depths of the night, these poster images have a shelf life of usually 24 hours.

Assignment #2: The Atlanta Jewish Music Festival 2015

 www.atlantajewishmusicfestival.org

AJMF is the pre-eminent producer and promoter of fresh Jewish music experiences, providing opportunities for musicians and audiences to deepen their connections to Jewish music, culture and each other.

AJMF’s sixth season will provide diverse and engaging musical experiences through its annual Spring Festival (March 2015), an extended artist residency, open mic events, collaborative experiences and more.

AJMF maintains consistent contact with its fans through its website, social media platforms and online connections. This gives AJMF the ability to widely disseminate information and coverage of a diverse range of topics in various communities with very low costs. Information AJMF shares electronically helps visiting artists attract a larger audience, educates a young constituency and creates a greater interest in contemporary Jewish culture.

AJMF engages and unifies an elusive Jewish demographic that is not easily accessible through traditional Jewish programming. As an entry point to Atlanta’s Jewish community for young Jews and recent arrivals, AJMF creates a deeper interest in Jewish identity through modern culture.

AJMF enriches our entire community through new sounds and timeless melodies.

For the past 4 years this advertising class has been selected by the AJMF to create their one-of-a-kind commemorative poster designs for it's highly anticipated annual music festival. Russell Gottschalk (Director and Founder) is excited once again to work with you at the beginning of this semester in designing concept poster designs. Russell and his designer will be in class on Wednesday September 3rd to go over this year's artist and itinerary. We'll also review the work that was done in the year's past for their festival.
A limited number of these posters will be silkscreened/printed and sold or distributed to their sponsors and benefactors. One of yours might be the chosen one. Also, once your work has been chosen you will work with Russell and Daniel on getting your files ready to print (layers) and then once the posters are printed he will bring them to class to show everyone and to have the selected designer sign and number each original print. Great experience.

In the past Mario Reid (2012) and Anna Masuzawa(2013) and Matthew Phejlada (2014) had their designs chosen to be used in this national music event held in Atlanta.

The Goal:
Each of you will create 2 designs that you feel represent the festival and the goals that are given at the creative meeting. Final designs will be printed/mounted for the AJMF team.
The original designs should be 12x18 on any type of paper you choose.
The AJMF should be used as well as the musical acts and dates that Russell will be giving to you when he visits the class. The discussion of the color palette is also crucial and also if your work is chosen you will need to prep the work for silkscreen purposes.
There is a monetary award for this poster to be used by AJMF. (TBA)

Due date TBA.

Here's some previous work with more to come.

Matthew Phejlada

Mario Reid (Senior class 2012 began his artistic career as a street artist sketching tattoo designs and the unique streetscapes of Little 5 Points.  His passion for drawing inspired him to attend art school, where he learned fine art and progressed to graphic design.  In Spring 2012, Mario won a graduate design contest at Georgia State University to develop AJMF’s inaugural, limited edition hand silkscreen poster (see above).  For only $35, you can own a piece of AJMF history and a fresh piece of art worthy of framing.
There’s only 50 hand numbered prints and they’re only available at our 3rd Annual AJMF so come early as these posters won’t last!!

Mario now works at CNN Headline News as a production assistant in motion.
