A major design advertising project this semester will be with CNN Headline News.
For the record, CNN is where my career as a designer began back in 1980 when I was hired as one of the original 6 graphic designers for this new 24/7 news network created by Ted Turner. Imagine 6 designers being responsible for 24/7-hour news cycle. Times were different and cable was seen as an oddity and not what it is today.
I began as a Video Journalist (a hybrid name for everyone who was hired originally. We were all trained to edit, run camera, and write. This was just in case anyone was out sick and they needed replacements. Everyone did everything in the beginning.
When I left in 2001 I had climbed my way up the corporate ladder to Director of Broadcast Design for CNN Headline News. I had hired an entire staff of 21 Designers, Illustrators, Photographers, and Production people. The majority of the creative team I hired are still there working and we'll be working alongside of them on this project as well as with the
Art Director, David Horslev and others in the Turner family.
The other news is that the Juniors will also be working on this project in tandem with you.
That means 41 graphic designers will join forces to work on this exciting network project.
It means teamwork and communication and creativity. This has never happened where the entire resources of our design department will be channeled towards one assignment.
More to come.
